Just cannot stay away from my love for decorating. karen s.
~These January days seem to be taking a toil on the body. ~
longing for the sun to shine
flowers to bloom
relaxation on the deck
AHHH!
We consider our deck another room of our home.
what great memories from 2010

what great memories from 2010
but unfortunately,
the hot summer sun took its toil on the drapery panels
:(
Yes, I am very disappointed to say the least.
I really thought the fabric was outdoor quality.
I'm not discarding them yet.
Just may figure out a way to re-purpose.
But, I have found inspiration!
I found this colorful "outdoor" pillow at Tuesday Morning.
Don't you just love the colors & flowers?
~Screaming spring~
I considered a few things before purchasing.
READ THE TAG - INDOOR/OUTDOOR
1. deck stain color & brick on house
blends well with the orange/red flower
2. the shades of green
will coordinate with the cushions on the furniture
3. the bright yellow matches well with these
I've learned a few life lessons along the way,
from my long-time decorating friend (that I miss dearly).
from my long-time decorating friend (that I miss dearly).
I would jump into something and she would
start asking all the important questions.
What about the color of this?
What about the color of furniture?
The style of the furniture?
What will the space be used for?
Can this be seen from another room?

I could continue on - but all these ?s bring
satisfaction to the completed project.
she refers to it as "A Finished Look"
I do have a few of those "unfinished" looks at the present time.
My next fun-filled piece was found
at the end of the summer at Tuesday Morning
for less than $2.
I say he coordinates real well.

Just love those little bird legs!
And he has a friend, I purchased two for that price.
They just may look great perched under a cloche.

But, wait what are his tiny legs perched upon?
You guessed right!
I will be creating my four new drapery panels out of dropcloths.
The putty color of the drop cloth & the flower in the
lower left corner of the picture match beautifully.
Lesson learned to share:
Purchase drop cloths from Home Depot,
those have the seam going down the middle.
I learned the hard way by purchasing the drop cloths from Lowes.
There's have the seam running across the width of the dropcloth.
"kinda hard to make drapery panels out of those"
Just have to put a few more things together,
like tablecloth & accessories.
But, those are the fun things!
The rug will definitely be staying.

I'll be starting on this project with
the first sign of green grass
the first sign of green grass
and the tulips & daffodils start blooming.

I love decorating too and Tuesday
Morning is a favorite place to
shop. How did I miss this darling
little bird? I would have snatched
him up in a moment! His colors
are beautiful with that fabric.
Now I'm inspired to see what I
can do to get my home looking
more spring-like. Who cares if
it's 27 degrees and the wind
sounds like a train coming!
Be blessed!
Sandy :0)
Love your deck and love your new pillow and little birds. Using the drop cloth for the curtains is a wonderful idea. I need to make some for my patio. It would totally change the look. Your yellow chairs are fabulous. Can't wait to see it all done for spring. Hugs, Marty
Oh a woman after my own heart and my decorating buddy lives too far away to go shopping with me...so we send pictures back and forth over our phones!
I too have been using drop cloth...did two shams with Monogram letters on them...and stenciled another pillow...all from drop cloth
I love your deck...I would love to have one like that one day...it is just beautiful and peaceful
Now a trip to our fabric outlets today for me and my five year old...so I can dream about re-upholstering some of my very worn furniture
Love the pillow, love the yellow chairs, love the bird...can't wait to see your wonderful pictures when it is finished....enjoy yourself!!! Being creative is just wonderful!!
Hi Karen! I'm saying you've got a jump on spring! I love your pretty porch and your furnishings! I love the drop cloth drapes and was thinking about these for a room in my house. Thanks for telling about the seam and that HD was the place to purchase them! :)
Love your pillows and the little birds are precious. I have a thing for birds too.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I love the fabric of the pillow. Reminds me of vintage bark cloth.
I've been thinking about using dropcloths for a drape on the back porch. I just have to figure out how to attach a rod to the brick. I am thinking of bracket rather than rod. Something to consider on this cold January day.
Gorgeous!! I could sit there all day and I love those plaid drapes you have now too. All the colors are beautiful and the little birdie delightful.
Headed over to read your simple pleasure. Thanks for stopping by yesterday.
this is amazing!!!! I would spend all day out in your yard, it looks so inviting. Love the little bird, and Tuesday Morning is a great place, isn't it?

YOUR PATIO IS GORGEOUS!!!
I can't get over house Southern Living-ish it is!
Did you build and design that deck yourself?
Your new fabric is fantastic and the bird is so cute! Such a great tip about the seams-have fun:@)
I have just been ill with longing for spring-do you hear me! You are not helping things at all!!LOL! I am like you I just think I might scream if it doesn't hurry up!
Oh, Karen seeing all of that sunshine and lovely outdoor area almost felt physically painful! I am sooooo longing for some warmth and agree that these are some of the longest weeks of the year to get through. I would have snatched that pillow right up too and I think the bird was meant to go along for sure! I can't wait to see how the drop cloths turn out and you completely inspired me to try something new on my own deck this summer! Thanks so much for sharing this at the party!
Vanessa
Oooooooooooooooh....can't wait to see the finished product. LOVE that bird. :)
Love the pattern and colors of that outdoor pillow. And the little birds match perfectly. Wishing you a warm and wonderful weekend. Tammy
A very attractive deck, sure you will spend many happy hours there, with the satisfaction of your new decor, and the dear little birds,
Hugs,
Jan
Beautiful Karen!!!
Have a nice weekend.
Karen,
Beautiful colors and space. I can't stop looking at your tablecloth either.
If I sewed, I'd be snapping up drop cloths left and right. I've seen so many uses for them.
Your deck will be lovely for 2011.
I also can really appreciate your word for 2011 - trust. I've been walking that the last few months as Chickie has started college. God is so good!
Your deck looks so welcoming and bright. Love your little birdies, what a bargain!
Oh, wow, what a beautiful deck! I love your inspirations for this year's decorating. That bird is too cute!
