Recipe cards and reminders ~ just simple pleasures

Words will not feel the space on this post.

since I've been a woman of many words lately

(lots of stains~must be a keeper)

flour, sugar & cornmeal stored in these
so convenient ~ remember the old cafe dishes?
that's one of the coffee cups

kneading the bread today and listening ~
I was reminded that HE is the Bread of Life

Joh 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread,
he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

Oh, the aroma was heavenly in my kitchen
just a reminder of HIS sweetness.

Ps 104:34 My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.

I'm sharing from my kitchen today
and joining with Dayle @ Simple Pleasures
 I hope you enjoy!

Your bread look wonderful, I wish I had some for my breakfast this morning. He is the bread of my life and in him I do not thirst either, he is my living water! Have a great day :D

*Simply* delicious, Karen. I confess to have only made my own bread about a half dozen times. I don't know why... I really do like the process, and I really do love the product. I can almost smell yours.

Your stained recipe card alone spoke to me as well. I find a great deal of pleasure is time worn recipes. Great post today!

Karen, this just warmed my heart. All of it. I love the stained recipe (those ARE the best, aren't they?). The reference to the real Bread of Life is what it's all about. A great Simple Pleasures post. Hope to see you again next week.

Such a lovely post!!! Those old recipes, written lovingly on cards or even scraps of paper, are SUCH a joy. It's so lovely to see the handwriting of a deceased loved one...almost like they're right there with us as we make the recipe.

Your bread looks delicious. I used to grind my own wheat and bake my own bread, but we discovered that doing that was causing us to overeat bread. By buying healthy bread for about $5 a loaf, we are MUCH more self-controlled with our eating...but when we could make it cheaply, we were definitely not self-controlled. I do miss the lovely aroma of baking bread, though.

Have a lovely day,
Patti

this is so comforting...the scripture and the bread stuff...I don't know how to bake but I think baking bread is comforting...kneading it...smelling it and even eating it. ☺

What a awesome post, I wish my bread looked like that. :)

I love how you correlated the two "breads" together to feed our soul.

Great simple pleasure!

Hi Karen...

I just read your sweet note and came right over, my friend! This is my first time at your place...it's so very nice to meet you, dear lady! Ohhh...you have a delightful blog! I am adding you to my list of blog follows and certainly look forward to your upcoming posts...and getting to know you!

Mmmm...your sour dough bread looks heavenly, Karen! By the looks of your recipe...it is a favorite! Thank you for sharing your recipe with us. It's been ages since I've made homemade bread! When my children were younger, we made bread every Friday. Now it's just my husband and me...and we just don't eat that much bread. However, homemade bread is entirely a different story! Hehe! I really enjoyed your photos...and I also enjoyed the scripture that you shared with us! I too am a Christian...I'm so thankful to know the "Bread of Life"!!!

Thank you for stopping by today...I really enjoyed your visit and sweet note, my friend! So very nice to meet you!!!

Warmest wishes,
Chari @Happy To Design

There's nothing like the smell,or taste for that matter, of home-baking is there? I love your old handwritten recipe, I have a few of those too.

Hey Karen,
Thank you so much for your sweet words of encouragement to me over at my place.

Oh, when I first saw the hand-written recipe, it reminded me of the ones my mom had written (when she even pretended to use a recipe--smile) and how I cherish them now that she is gone.

Her words from the Lord were choice morsels from God to me and how I miss them.

The bread looks scrumptious--wish I was there to enjoy a piece with you.

Thanks for this lovely post that gave me pause for special thoughts.

Love,
Dianne

Karen, This is a wonderful post. The canister with the flour in it is my ideal for a kitchen canister. I loved how your heart for God comes through, throughout the post. Lovely. I'm going back to re-read it now.

Karen - this post brought back memories of my own stained recipe cards. It brings me joy and pleasant memories when I find one written in my mother's handwriting.

And yes, love the Bread of Life.

Blessings,
Joan

oh, yummmmmmm, Karen! You should frame that recipe. I have a friend who framed her grandma's recipes in her grandma's hand and stained and well-loved. I always thought that was really cute.

Thanks for stopping by my place!

Hi Karen ... YUM(!), the bread looks wonderful. I could gobble them up in one sitting! Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving your sweet note about my Fall decor. I love your suggestion of placing the hurricane on my porch in a basket ... think I'll try that! Have a wonderful day, Becca
